I’m slightly in shock, Ewa’s slightly exhausted and we did it.
Just over 7 weeks ago I got on a bike for the first time in years. I was terrified of exercise as I was so unfit and figured I’d probably have a heart attack as I’d not exactly looked after myself after a heart op.
I trained a bit, got a virus and had ridden 25 miles once. This ride was 9 days adding up to around 450 miles. The first 5 I had a fever every night, Ewa had a panic attack on Chiswick High Road. It rained, rained and rained some more. There was sunshine, wind and arguments with Madge, the magical, mystical map maiden whose voice in my ear guided us so well...mostly:)
And I realised along the way how deeply I love GTL and what we can give to people and how beautifully the wee community we’ve grown comes together for others. It’s a struggle to keep going, so often I’ve thought it’s time to give it up, so hard to keep believing it’ll work out, that there’ll be enough funds to take the next person to their show.
So we cycled. A long way. We took Nicky to her Eddie Vedder show and Anthony arrives for his Slipknot show. And that’s what drives us to keep going, to keep believing...the desire to give someone their show in the Given To Live way.
